Predictably, the conservative British press are up in arms yet again about a GTA game. This time the game hasn’t even been released.
GTA IV has been in the Daily Express over a section of the game which involves driving whilst extremely drunk. They claim to be worried that it will encourage teenage drivers to drink-drive.
The RAC has also spoken out over the same section of the game which is called “Getting Blind Drunk”. Sheila Rainger, acting director of the RAC said: “Young people are very impressionable, and their age group is over-represented in the crash statistics so we can’t risk anything that that could be seen as normalising drink-driving.”
This is not an unexpected development and Sam Houser commented on media flak for the GTA series in a recent interview: “I expect it because we’ve had so much in the past.”

I don’t understand what’s the uproar. It’s only a game.
Although the prior volumes of GTA were racy, the controls weren’t that good. Even Resident Evil 4’s controls are better than the GTA series.
I agree. The uproar is from people who neither play nor understand games.
In the end it’s just a bit of fun and I don’t think will normalise drink-driving in the slightest.
The GTA series seems to go straight over the heads of the British press. It’s just another joke that the British press seem to have missed.
