98. Lawsuit forces GAME to alter the way they market pre-owned

Just to be clear here, GAME are not the ones actually being sued, it’s US retailer GameStop.

The main point is that GameStop are being sued for selling preowned games bundled with one-use DLC codes as if the code had not been used. This has forced GAME to finally change their marketing strategies for preowned games so that they do not open themselves up to the same kind of lawsuit here in the UK.

Of course, they’ve been at it for a while now, selling games like Dragon Age: Origins and the Game of the Year Editions of Call of Duty without warning customers that the DLC codes may not work any more. In fact, until recently they even charged more for the GOTY edition of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare thand they did for the originals on both PS3 and Xbox 360.

It is about time they started acting responsibly. The real shame is that it is not out of some genuine concern from the consumer, it is out of fear that they will be open to costly lawsuits, especially at a time when they are trying to ‘save’ money.

Just don’t get me started on that…
